Dr. Kamthan is a board certified ophthalmologist, specializing in laser and refractive cataract surgery, with special interest in high-risk cataracts and reconstruction of the anterior segment of the eye.
As Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Dr. Kamthan has trained residents across multiple locations including New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai in Manhattan, The Mount Sinai Hospital, the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx, and Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens. Because of his excellence in teaching he has recently been named the Associate Director of Cataract Surgical Training at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. In his new role he will be actively involved in educating and supervising residents, both in clinic and in the operating room as they learn the intricacies of cataract surgery and other ophthalmic procedures.
Dr. Kamthan also serves as the Assistant Director for Ophthalmic Innovation and Technology and is currently involved in preparing the micro interventional ophthalmic robot for pivotal U.S. Food and Drug Administration trials. He has received several awards and honors including NYEE’s Jorge N. Buxton MD Microsurgical Educator Award (2021) and inclusion in New York Magazine Best Doctors listing (2021, 2022).
Dr. Kamthan graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISSM) with honors and completed his ophthalmology residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
